Sour Milk is a heartfelt kitchen-sink drama traversing the effects of the AIDS epidemic in 1980’s Manchester. This original play by Red Brick Theatre explores the relationship between two queer friends, Mark and Ange, who seem inseparable. We see the effects of new relationships, envy, and miscommunication placing strain on their relationship at a turbulent time for the queer community in Manchester.
Set in Ange’s one bedroom apartment atop a chippy, the limits of the duo’s relationships are pushed. Their regular lives of cynicism, promiscuity and monotony are flipped upside down by a life changing event. How do you make someone accept themselves? How do you find the words to tell someone you love them? How can you be happy when you’re alone?
Red Brick Theatre are an emerging new theatre company from Salford and Manchester, recently graduated from the University of Salford. Comprised of theatre makers, actors, and technicians, Red Brick Theatre are committed to collaboration and creation as a group of peers and friends.
Sour Milk began as a Practical Research Project and was later developed into an hour long piece which was performed at the Greater Manchester Fringe in September 2021. They were nominated in two categories at the fringe – Best Newcomer and Best Drama and received rave reviews from audiences!
We’re thrilled to have this graduate theatre company back in our theatre. We look forward to seeing the performance and hearing from the team about becoming a graduate theatre company, developing work created as part of a module, new writing and producing work for the fringe!
